Special Edition: Celebrating three years of TSCML ✨
Happy third anniversary <3
Can you believe it?
We’re THREE years into This Song Changed My Life today (!!!)
I’m truly honored to have you here, whether you’re a brand new subscriber or you’ve been around since day one.
It feels important to be producing and partaking in something so deeply human right now, and every year this feeling grows. Thank you to every reader and every writer for being a part of this project — our sacred Friday ritual <3
Celebrate with us!
🔗 Share the link to your favorite essay (and/or your own essay) on social media, and encourage your friends to join us here. It’d give us a meaningful boost!

❤️ Chip in if you can! This project is still very much a labor of love. You can help keep it going for $5/month or $50/year ($4.17/mo). Plus, you’ll get access to 75+ secret posts, playlists, and album recommendations in return. I’m particularly proud of this one, and I’ll link to a few more at the bottom of this page.
Extremely special shout out if you’re already a paid subscriber — every single person reading this has you to thank.
A few highlights from this year
Our contributors regaled us with rich and varied stories of incredible tenacity, teenage antics, new motherhood, new fatherhood, facing uncertainty, familial grief, joining/leaving the military, being the new kid, and so much more.
We were lucky enough to have skateboarder/filmmaker Rachelle Vinberg write a sweet piece about her brother (and Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven”) back in December
We published an essay in Spanish for the first time, José Luis Ruiz’s piece on Carole King’s “It’s Too Late,” graciously translated to English by Humberto J. Rocha, who also contributed his own essay on Soda Stereo’s “Persiana Americana”
And we received a submission all the way from Pakistan, Osman Khan’s piece on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s “Yeh Jo Halka Halka Saroor”
I’d shout out every essay here if I could, but I have to cut myself off so this email doesn’t get chopped in half. Please dig all the way into the archive and leave lovely comments for our writers to let them know you appreciate them as much as I do!
What’s next?
Cheers to three years! We have lots of stories to share in the coming months, and we’ll be back on Friday with essay ✨ No. 150 ✨ (another milestone)!
More soon,
x Grace
